Nominations for the 2011 BAFTA Awards, or British Academy Film Awards, were announced this morning in London. ”The King’s Speech” led the field with 14 nominations, including best film and original screenplay. Colin Firth also got a best actor nomination for his role in the movie, and director Tom Hooper was nominated as well. Firth won a best actor Golden Globe for ”The King’s Speech” over the weekend. Other leading actor nominees include Javier Bardem, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg and James Franco.

Other best film nominees include ”The Social Network,” ”True Grit,” ”Black Swan” and ”Inception.” ”Black Swan” also garnered mulitiple BAFTA nominations, including one for star Natalie Portman. Like Firth, Portman took home a Golden Globe acting award on Sunday. Portman will compete against Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Noomi Rapace and Hailee Steinfeld in the BAFTA leading actress category.

Other notable BAFTA nominations include a best supporting actor nomination for Pete Postlethwaite for his role in ”The Town.” Postlethwaite died on January 2, after a battle with cancer. Other supporting actor nominees include Christian Bale, Andrew Garfield, Mark Ruffalo and Geoffrey Rush. Supporting actress BAFTA nominees include Amy Adams, Helena Bonham Carter, Barbara Hershey, Lesley Manville and Miranda Richardson.

The BAFTA Awards will be handed out on February 13, 2011, at the Royal Opera House in London. In the U.S., the awards will be broadcast on BBC America.
